Our History

Fremont School was built in 1915 due to the General Assembly legislation that was passed in 1915 requiring all children ages eight to fourteen to attend school. In 1926 an addition was built on the south end of the building that expanded the school to almost double the size. It functioned as an elementary school until 1979. On October 24, 2000 the 48,684 square foot Classical Revival style school was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building boasts decorative brickwork, terra cotta ornamentation, beautiful porticoes and arched doorways. The Brick Lofts acquired the property in 2016. Renovations began in the summer of 2017 with plans to open by the end of the year as Spartanburg’s newest upscale loft apartments.
